Merry Christmas to You and Yours
Just a quick post to wish you a Merry Christmas. We will be celebrating with our family today and the rest of the week, but don’t worry – I’ll still be blogging until the 31st!
Here’s a quick photo of my family from our holiday photo shoot. Don’t you love our glam style? Special shout out to my bestest friend and super talented photographer – Brooke Clark from Studio B Portraits.

A Little Post About Heather
Whew! Is anyone else as pooped as I am writing all these blog posts? I’m happy to say that we’re almost halfway done. In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to write a little post about myself. Here’s 5 things you may not know about me.
1. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for the past 13 years. We have 2 wonderful children and our daughter is actually going to the same elementary school that my husband attended almost 30 years ago!
2. Just because we’ve lived in the same town for pretty much our entire lives doesn’t mean that we don’t get out and see the world. Our travels have included Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, and of course all over the US – including our favorite annual winter retreat to Hawaii.
3. I have crazy taste in music, movies, and TV. At least that’s what my husband says! I am addicted to Twilight, Gossip Girl, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga and The Real Housewives of everywhere! I think my husband puts up with me because I love me some Death Cab for Cutie, Foo Fighters, Seinfeld, The Walking Dead, and Fringe, as well. Oh, and I cannot wait for The Hunger Games to come out next year!
4. I’m getting a little obsessed with running and weight training. After I had my son, 4 years ago, I never lost all my extra weight. I’m proud to say that I’m getting back to my pre-kiddo weight with the help of a naturopathic doctor who’s got me on a crazy diet and an i-Pod shuffle (filled with the music listed in Item 3) for my running. In addition to running 4 times a week, I’ve taken to lifting weights. I’m still pretty wimpy in that department, but it sure is fun to see the biceps forming!
5. If you asked me 10 years ago if I’d have my own custom stationery business, the answer would be “wha”? In fact, I was on track to get my PhD in Biostatstistics. Seriously! I’m a total math/science girl and I think that’s why I love running my own business. I analyze everything and am not afraid to try new things!
Well, that’s it for now! Thanks for keeping up with our 31 days of blogging.
Are Custom Invitations Right For You?
Continuing with our 31 days of blogging in December, I wanted to write a post about how to decide if custom invitations are right for you. I get asked all the time, how is custom different from customized? After all, shouldn’t all invitations be custom since you are putting my name on them? Well, yes and no.
Let’s start from the beginning. There are a couple different types of stationers out there. Let’s see which is right for you.
The first is the shop that sells other designers creations. They have catalogs in their studios of sample invites that you will find on the internet and in magazines. When you go this route, you can alter the fonts, colors (sometimes for an additional fee), and add in your names and date to a pre-designed card. This is great if you find something in the catalog that fits your style.
Customizable letterpress catalog invitation
Now, what if you don’t find something in the catalog or if you have a very specific theme in mind? Well, that’s where a custom designer is great. We can take all your elements and combine them to create something totally unique and completely you! This process usually takes a bit longer – up to 12 weeks for design, printing, and assembly, so you need to make sure you have enough time before your event.
Custom letterpress design created at Chic Ink
Whether you decide the custom or customized route, we can definitely help. The most important thing to remember is to find something that fits with the style and theme you want to convey at your event.

I’m experiencing some technical difficulties on the site when adding photos.
I can’t wait to show you everything that I’ve been working on, but can’t do that without photos! In the meantime, head on over to the Chic Ink Facebook page to see photos and updates of our latest work.
Chic Ink Interview with My Favorite Female Entrepreneurs
When I first started my custom invitation business, Chic Ink, I searched for a group of like minded gals who I could share my successes and failures with. I was so lucky that I found the Young Female Entrepreneurs. We meet monthly and I always come away with at least one idea that I can implement immediately and see results!
When Mali, the Community Manager at YFE, asked me for an interview, I was so excited. I thought they saved those for the “successful” gals. Well, they must have thought I fit the bill. You can read my interview at this link.
Be sure to read about all the other great gals that are involved with this organization. And, if you’re a female in your 20′s and 30′s who is (or would like to be) an entrepreneur, consider joining the group!
